VASuvius - Visual Arts Sutherland

Visual Arts Sutherland (VASu) was formed in 2004 to provide a platform for networking, skill-sharing and the collective promotion of art work within Sutherland and beyond. Membership includes both fine artists and craftspeople and the Association is committed to promoting excellence and innovation in all areas of the visual arts.

VASu also aims to encourage greater enjoyment of and participation in the visual arts within the wider population and, to that end, it organises regular exhibitions of members work in galleries and other venues. Successful Open Studios Trails have been promoted and an outreach education programme for Primary Schools continues to be developed and delivered.

Currently, the association’s web presence is being expanded with an innovative project that creates a series of immersive virtual studio visits, a virtual gallery and an online education resource with downloadable projects for schools. Most members are also able to welcome visitors to their studios and details can be found in the VASu Directory which has been made widely available in venues throughout the county.

VASu has very much appreciated the opportunity to showcase members’ work in Timespan on two occasions, in this year’s annual exhibition and in the summer of 2006. Much valued too is the involvement of Timespan artist-in-residence and fellow member, Ruth Macdougall, who willingly undertook several key tasks: design, preparation and distribution of printed materials, display-graphics and the hanging of works.
