Digital Artist in Residence
Oliver is here at Timespan developing new ways to document. Through his own digital film / sound work, and alongside ‘senior citizens’, his aim is to enable these lifetime ‘makars’ (poets), as he sees it; find their own voice, handle and shoot with digital cameras and record their own lives.
I believe in a ‘Temporal’ way of working, a way of creating that documents our contact with places, objects and each other as it happens. Asking how these documents actually record the passing of time? How do they capture these instances, and what then becomes of our inheritance? In Helmsdale I will be trying to find ways to represent those ‘timelessness’ things, the ‘rhythms’ in our lives; motifs of meaning, punctuation to the understanding of our lives.
