Between the Hills and the Sea
August 2006
Canadian artist, Christina Sealey, will have an exhibition, ‘Between the Hills and the Sea,’ opening at the Timespan gallery, Helmsdale, on the 5th of August. Sealey is a figurative artist who completed her MFA at the Edinburgh College of Art and has exhibited extensively within Canada and the United Kingdom. Her new exhibition consists of a series of portraits based on a residency in the Caithness & Sutherland and Ross-shire region, completed in June 2004. During her residency, she interviewed, drew and photographed people from a variety of backgrounds, ages and occupations in various communities. Christina then returned to Canada and used this research to produce the new series of paintings. The images depict individuals in exterior and interior environments that they consider significant, exploring the relationships between members of these close-knit communities and the influence of the distinctive landscape, climate and history.
