For despite having left Helmsdale and the residency at Timespan the area doesn’t quite leave me.…

I recent went to Vancouver for an exhibition and soon after my arrival sat next to a woman who knew Helmsdale well! Her close description of the streets surprised me but she explained to me that her grandmother had left the strath of Killdonan in 1811 to settle in Red River.

Her name is Marian Penner Bancroft and is one of Canada’s foremost photographers. Not long ago she did a project in Sutherland and Caithness. So perhaps some of you already know her? Here is one of her pictures:

Then the other day I cycled off to attend an auction in an area I’d never been to. Along the way I found that many of the streets were now somewhat familiar… I past Rogart Street, Kildonan Drive and stopped soon after Inverness Street.

Today I go to pick up a few of the little catalogues. I think some are presently on their way to you too.

And to those of you who lent bowls please do pick up your photographs.
