The Sutherland Explorer

Timespan is delighted to be the first UK destination to bring a GPS visitor experience to the great outdoors – and what a great experience it is!

The Sutherland Explorer will guide you through the fascinating history of the Kildonan Gold Rush which took place nearly 150 years ago.

With the flick of a switch you will be transported back in time to the days when men travelled from around the world, to seek their fortune in a little known Highland Burn.

Over a period of six months in 1869, more than 300 prospectors tried their luck panning for gold under almost impossible conditions.

Now, in the very place that they walked, worked, toiled and laughed you can follow in their footsteps, hear the voices and see the original images that were taken on the site at that time.

The Sutherland Explorer is a hand held audio visual device which  is  automatically triggered by satellite when you reach given points of the landscape.   Beautifully narrated by actor Isla Blair this extraordinary piece of Scottish history will come alive in a completely unique way.

Book your Sutherland Explorer for an adventure in one of the most stunning parts of Highland by checking in at Timespan’s  front desk, calling 01431 821 327 or e-mailing enquiries@timespan.org.uk
